Corrina’s Corner: A Pet Food Revolution

Corrina’s Corner, a raw meat pet food store, is the newest shop to open in the Oakhurst neighborhood of Decatur. Jacques Duplantier, a lawyer, is the sole proprietor and operator of the store.

CorrinaThe pet food store is named after Duplantier’s dog, Corrina. On his website, Duplantier shared that he found Corrina at a local rescue in Minnesota where in poor condition and ‘totally lethargic.‘

“Corrina couldn’t eat commercial foods and a veterinarian told me about the raw food diet,” said Duplantier. “In a month, you would never have known anything was wrong with her.” Duplantier, who earned a law degree from the University of Minnesota, moved to Atlanta and found a job as an attorney, but discovered that he wasn’t happy sitting at a desk and pushing papers all day. “I had to go back and [ask myself], ‘What do I care about?’ and ‘What would make me happy?” said Duplantier.

“I live in Decatur and [felt] the neighborhood was lacking a specialty pet food store and that it was the right market for pet nutrition.”

He explained how he used his skills as a lawyer to help navigate his way through the complicated licensing process and in December of 2012, he opened for business.

The raw pet food is designed to be mixed with other dog food, but he also sells complete meals and offers ground turkey, duck and chicken for people who want to make their own food. “I do everything myself,” he said. “It makes it more affordable because there is no middle man.”

Duplantier also does customer and bulk orders to allow customers to get food cheaper.

Corrina’s Corner is opened Tuesday through Saturday from 10:30am to 7:00pm and on Sunday from 12:00pm to 5:00pm. It is closed on Monday.
