DeKalb Public Library Kicks Off Summer Youth Reading Program

The DeKalb Public Library kicked off its annual summer reading program with a party at the Tucker Recreation Center that included singing and dancing with Mr. Jason of Jason’s Music Party and infor-mation on this year’s theme Libraries Rock!

Youth Service Coordinator for DeKalb Public Library, Gina Jenkins said “It’s very important that the kids continue to read over the summer so they can keep their learning skills up to par. We use incentives to energize the program to keep the children reading.” Jenkins said the more the children read the better the opportunity is for them to win passes to cultural and entertainment events throughout the county.

To top it off and remove any reason not to participate, a Fine-Free Summer is also in effect for materials checked out from the children’s and teen’s collections through August 31. For details go to or visit any DeKalb Public Library Branch.
