Eat Well, Do Good with Good Measure Meals

How would you like to have ready-to-eat gourmet meals delivered to your house? Atlanta and Athens non-profit Good Measure Meals is a meal delivery service that provides affordable, gourmet meals designed to help people meet their health and weight goals with menus designed by a team of Registered Dieticians and Chefs.

Over a decade ago founder Tom Murphy saw a need for a meal service. He had been preparing meals for his mother while she was receiving cancer treatment, saw a need for a meal service for those who had the financial means but were unable to get to a grocery store or cook their own food. In the mid-2000s, Murphy, whose name-sake restaurant Murphy’s in Virginia Highland has long been a popular dining destination, sold Good Measure Meals to Open Hand Atlanta, a nonprofit that provides meals and nutritional education to underserved members of the community.

As a social enterprise for Open Hand Atlanta, one hundred percent of Good Measure Meals profits are used to deliver 5,200 medically appropriate meals daily to homebound seniors and underserved people of metro Atlanta battling or at risk for chronic disease. That’s close to 2 million meals a year.

Four customizable meal plans are provided by Good Measure Meals: Healthy Selection, No Seafood, Vege-tarian and Diabetic, in 3- meal, 2 -meal or 1 -meal -a -day options, five or seven days a week, with four differ-ent caloric levels to choose from. Other comprehensive nutritional support from Registered Dieticians, corporate wellness programs and catering are also available. Customers can pick up meals at over 100 metro Atlanta locations or choose home delivery for an additional fee.

“Good Measure Meals prides itself in providing meals that are science-based and rooted in nutritional value,” said Good Measure Meals marketing coordinator Whitney Barr. “We provide a 360-degree support system led by Registered Dietitians and fitness pros in order for you to achieve your wellness goals. Pickup is twice a week, some get breakfast and lunch only and some get the dinner option. Meals are on a four-week schedule and can be customized to your needs. If you decide you want to try it for four weeks you have something different every day. Good Measure Meals uses local seasonal produce as much as we can. “
