Hundreds of Dachshunds (and their People!) Take Over Atlanta for Howl-O-Weenie

The Howl-O-Weenie Dachshund Festival is a free festival that features a day of fun events for Dachs-hunds and people alike on Saturday, Oct. 5 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The event will be located at Liane Leve-tan Park at Brook Run at 4770 N. Peachtree Rd., Dunwoody, Ga., 30338.

The day will include a Dachshund Howl-off, a costume contest, a face-kissing contest, the Dachshund Dunk (dogs bob for hot dogs in bowls of water) and Dachshund Races (Speedy Weiner, Seniors, and Wheelchair divisions). Of course, food sales include hot dogs with all the fixings. The vendor market booths offer dachshund art, doggie treats and pet accessories. There will also be a silent auction with a wide range of beautiful dachshund art, vacation packages, and innovative dog-gie products. Everyone will dance the Doxie Hokey Pokey at the end!

The festival will raise money for veterinary care for dachshunds who have been abandoned in Georgia. For a complete schedule and directions to the park, visit http://www.dreamrescue.org. DREAM’s twitter account is @DREAMRescue and they have an active facebook community of dachshund lovers.

Howl-O-Weenie began in 2003 to meet the goal of making significant improvements in the lives of needy dachshunds in the Atlanta and North Georgia area. The proceeds provide financial assistance for veterinary expenses for DREAM foster dogs. Every dog that is placed in a home through DREAM is spayed/neutered, fully vaccinated, tested or treated for heartworms and tested or treated for other parasites. All other medical conditions also are addressed. Every year, DREAM provides a temporary home for approximately 150 abandoned, abused or unwanted dachshunds as its volunteers work to find them a permanent and loving home. DREAM is a 501c3, all-volunteer organization licensed by the Georgia Department of Agriculture.
