South Fork, Peachtree Creek, flowing in DeKalb Coun- ty from the site of Tucker to I-85 at GA 400 was, in Native American times, a pure and beautiful stream. It mainly provided passage for trade and travel of the Creek Indians, and archaeologists have found many ancient Native pottery shards, projectiles and miniature sculptures along the banks of the South Fork, Peachtree Creek. As the namesake South Fork Conservancy, with its admirable emphasis on protect- ing ancient wildlife at sites in DeKalb contends, “Before there was Peachtree Street, there was Peachtree Creek.” Continued on page 7 Buying a Piece of Furniture Helps Families in DeKalb By Angela K. The Habitat ReStore Doraville location accepts tax deduct- ible donations of new or gently used household items and building materials. Proceeds from items sold at the store go to Habitat for Humanity DeKalb, where families can purchase affordable housing. Imagine buying quality items ranging from appliances, furniture and flooring to home decorations, lighting and plumbing supplies for a good price. Then, imagine that the items you buy will go toward supporting Habitat for Human- ity for DeKalb families who have opportunity to live in decent and safe homes. There are three ways to connect with this ReStore; as an individual or business you can donate quality items, as a consumer, you can find needed household items for your home or you can volunteer. Either way you are contributing to your community. As a valuable member of the community, they are always looking for quality items as well as people who are interested in volunteering.
