This summer 2019 there’s a program in place in great Gwinnett to help feed its kids and teens in need of basic nutrition. We’re starting to understand that schools are vital not only for education but also to feed stu- dents. Once schools close in the spring that leaves a time when many young people not enrolled need help getting meals during summer break. Thankfully, Gwinnett Parks Foun- dation has stepped forward with a free lunch and snacks program for young county citizens 18 years of age and younger. Locations are at three Gwinnett Parks & Recreation locations: • Best Friend Park, 6624 Jimmy Carter Blvd., Norcross • Rhodes Jordan Park, 100 E. Crogan St., Lawrenceville • Lilburn Activity Building, 788 Hillcrest Rd., Lilburn Lunches (11:30 am-12:30 pm) and snacks (2:30-3:00 pm) will be available Mondays-Fridays June 3-June 28. The program will not operate for an Indepen- dence Day break, July 1-5. It resumes July 8-August 2. Continued on page 8 Organizers of the 10th annual Cars & ‘Q for the Cause are supercharged about their best fundraising year on record for the Cystic Fibrosis Founda- tion (CFF). The award-winning car show and party hosted by Choate Construction raised a record $521,581 on Sunday, May 5, and topped $3.5 million in overall funds donated to help fund a cure for cystic fibrosis, the genetic lung disorder affecting about 30,000 in the U.S. The highly-antiicipated and fam- ily-friendly fundraiser has grown by leaps and bounds in its 10-year history, June 16th Lilburn resident Fred Chapman was honored at the event with the inaugural Cars & ‘Q for the Cause Warrior award. Chapman and his com- pany Baker Paint have been involved with Cars & ‘Q since its inception.
