Senior Celebrations with the Stormy Petrels Over at Oglethorpe University, the Stormy Petrels celebrated the Senior Days’ of the Men’s and Women’s Soccer Teams as well as the Women’s Volleyball team during the weekend of October 12th. The festivities began that Friday with the Men’s team honoring 7 of the 34-man roster which included: Ekow Annan, Rob Bonet, Jonathan Guy, Topher Marshall, Devon Patterson, Jake Sayer, and Adam Sole. The game took place against Conference rivals Hendrix with each senior present throughout the match. Patterson scored two goals, Sole and Bonet each had one, and Marshall earned two assists. The game concluded 6-0 in favor of the Petrels. On Sunday of that same weekend, the Women’s Soc- cer team honored 6 of the 28-man roster beginning with: Sydney Allen, Nicolette Andrey, Precious Buddington, Tabitha Floyd, and Sedaries Mathis. The Petrels unfortu- nately lost to Conference rivals Rhodes 3-0. Lastly, the Women’s Volleyball team also honored 6 of their 25-man roster featuring: Delaney Findling, Evan Furst, Lexi Grams, Haili Nelson, Santreece Stephens, and Ashlee Tolbert. (Public Domain according to Library of Congress) I turn 68 this November 14 and have found, perhaps like many aging into the senior years, that I’m finally and consistently thankful to be alive. It’s become a kind of wisdom I didn’t used to have and started a few years ago when I attended a wedding of an old friend, Mark—his second, same for his new bride Lisa. Mark’s just a few years younger than me. When I congratulated him he smiled and replied spontaneously, “I thank God for every day.” It affected me greatly. And so I resolved soon after that to follow what Mark said, and now it’s something daily that I never forget to do. I thank the Almighty not only for this day but the day before. It’s profound, makes me feel better to realize my many blessings. Continued on page 4
