Youth Competes in Communication Competition

DeKalb County youth Carmen Mitchell, an eighth grader at Druid Hills Middle School, scored big in the Georgia 4-H youth development program. The District Project Achievement is one of the biggest events put on by Georgia 4-H for her way with words.

Each year the program hosts a project development competition where its members have the opportunity to ‘show what they know’. After all the demonstrations were completed and the judges’ scores were tallied, every-one gathered for the closing assembly and the winners were announced from multiple categories with ribbons and presentations for first through third place.

In just her second year competing, Carmen placed first in the Public Speaking category in 2015 and was a close runner up this year in the Communications category. She states that after much dedication, many hours of research and practice she takes pride in her efforts and looks forward to next year’s competition. She contributes much of her accomplishments to the consistent support of county agents, Mr. Anderson and Ms. Trice and of course her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Mitchell.
